6 of 7 Eligible OLM Basketball Teams Advance to Playoffs;
8th Grade Girls’ School Team to Play for State Championship on Saturday
As OLM’s Catholic Athletic League basketball season winds down, all eyes will be focused on Saturday’s matchup when the OLM 8th Grade Girls team will face Good Shephard at Bay View at 3:15.  The OLM Jaguars enter the matchup with a 12-0 record and advanced to the Championship game with a 35-17 win over Mercymount.
With a total of 177 school and parish teams playing for CAL this season, OLM fielded 10 of those teams; three in the developmental division,  four school teams and three parish teams.  Of the seven teams that were eligible (developmental division does not keep records or hold playoffs), an impressive six teams advanced to the playoffs.  Three school teams and one parish team advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated (teams advancing listed in parentheses):  7th grade school girls team (Immaculate Conception, Cranston); 6th grade school boys team(St. Philomena, Porstmouth); 7th grade school boys team (St. Lukes, Barrington); and 6th grade girls parish team (Holy Apostles, Cranston).
The OLM 8th Grade Boys School Team advanced to the semifinals with a 30 – 23 win over Mt. St. Charles. They were prevented from advancing to the championship game by a buzzer-beater for the second year in a row, losing to Blessed Sacrament 50-49.
The OLM Awards Banquet will be held on Sunday, March 20 at Quidnessett Country Club.
