OLM Students Shine in Performance of Disney’s
Beauty and the Beast, Jr.
Our Lady of Mercy School students wowed the audiences with their performances of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. at The Prout School Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. Produced through special arrangement with Music Theater International (MTI), the 60-minute musical classic Disney show is based on the Hans Christian Anderson classic and was filled with familiar tunes, including songs from the 1991 Academy Award®-winning animated feature film and the 1994 Broadway show.
The OLM cast included 63 students in grades 2-8 led by director Chelsea Cook of Rhode to Broadway and OLM’s music director, Shirley Medici. Leading roles were beautifully performed by sixth grader Annie Brugnoli (Warwick) as Belle, Calvin K. Buffington (Warwick) as the Beast, seventh grader Bobby Calabro (East Greenwich) as Gaston, eighth grader Sienna Giardino (EG) as Lefou, seventh grader Luciana Calero (North Kingstown) as Lumiere and eighth graders Katie LaPlante (EG) as Cogsworth and Cecilia Cambio (EG) as Mrs. Potts.
Several generous OLM families and businesses supported the performance through volunteer support and sponsorships including: Pangaea Logistics Solutions, AEM Roofing and Construction, Dogtopia, DK Power, Decof, Mega and Quinn, P.C., The Mita Team, Rhode to Broadway, and Faith and Grace Design Studios.
