OUR LADY OF MERCY SCHOOL’S GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM IS THE DIOCESAN STATE CHAMPION!
Our Lady of Mercy School’s girls cross country team placed first and the OLM School boys cross country team placed third in the Diocesan State Meet which took place on Wednesday October 12, 2022 at Slater Park.
The first-place state finish was a fitting ending to a highly successful season, with the girls team earning the Southern Division title last week. The boys team has also consistently performed well, earning a second place finish in the Southern Division. The teams were well-led by Coach Dan Anter and Coach Betsy Smith.
The top finishers at the Diocesan Meet were:
Girls (out of 181 runners)
4th place – Madison Ourique, 13:52; 5th place – Katie LaPlante, 13:53; 11th place – Daniella Sisco, 14:07; 14th place – Anna Jelinek, 14:21
Boys (out of 196 runners)
9th place – Luca Marenghi, 12:26; 13th place – Brady Kopka, 12:46; 21st place – Shane Higgins, 13:04; 23rd place – Alec Hayes, 13:09
While these were the top finishers, all of their teammates contributed to the outstanding results. There were also many parents and supporters present to cheer the team on to victory, including OLM Parish Pastor Very Rev. Bernard Healey, OLM Associate Pastor Father Daniel Mahoney, and OLM Athletic Director Mr. Jerry O’Connell. It was a true team effort!
